Endowment size and reporting scope

The USD 348.762 million FY2025 figure follows the survey's respondent, University of New Brunswick. The legal filer discussed below can have a different accounting perimeter. Endowed accounts may include both donor-restricted resources and amounts designated for long-term use by a governing board. Investing those accounts together does not remove their spending restrictions. The prior-year USD 307.540 million figure supplies a second closing observation, after the effects of annual support and new gifts. Survey scope and definitions

The official CAD 289.823 million figure and the FY2025 survey's USD 348.762 million describe their respective dates and reporting categories. The official balance retains its stated label, total endowments. The audit and survey use different reporting categories. Official financial scope

The FY2025 survey value for University of New Brunswick is USD 348.762 million, compared with USD 307.540 million for FY2024. The USD 41.222 million movement is 13.40% of the earlier balance. It includes changes in investments as well as additions and distributions. NACUBO explicitly distinguishes this change in market value from an investment rate of return. FY2025 respondent values and definitions

The available history begins in FY2016 at USD 209.257 million and ends in FY2025 at USD 348.762 million. The change across those observations is USD 139.505 million. The smallest reported balance in the displayed series is USD 209.257 million in FY2016; the largest is USD 348.762 million in FY2025. The change in assets includes gifts and distributions as well as investment results. NACUBO historical workbook

The survey expresses Canadian institutions' balances in U.S. dollars using the conversion conventions stated in the workbook. Exchange-rate movements can affect changes between fiscal years. The official Canadian-dollar balance elsewhere on this page retains its own currency and fiscal date. The U.S. historical values are not spliced into a Canadian-dollar line.

Spending policy and payout

The FY2025 NCSE $250M to $500M group reports an average effective spending rate of 5.2%. That is a survey-group statistic and is not assigned as University of New Brunswick's policy. An institution's own spending rule can use several prior valuation dates, a prior-year dollar draw or additional adjustments. Its approved appropriation and the cash ultimately spent by a department can differ in timing. NCSE spending-rate table

The USD 348.762 million FY2025 survey balance for University of New Brunswick is not an annual spending budget. NCSE's effective rate describes the size group. It does not establish this respondent's approved payout or identify the programs receiving support. A fund's donor agreement continues to govern its use after money leaves the investment pool. Spending measures

Governance and investment office

New Brunswick's Board of Governors maintains investment and spending policies for endowed resources. Its audit distinguishes externally restricted gifts from internally endowed assets. It also describes reserving a portion of endowment income for capital preservation. The financial statements retain Canadian dollars and an April 30 year-end. Investment governance

Federal excise tax on investment income

Public Law 119-21 changed Section 4968 for tax years beginning after December 31, 2025. Applicable private institutions must have at least 3,000 tuition-paying students in the preceding tax year, with more than half located in the United States, and student-adjusted endowment of at least $500,000. The rates are 1.4% from $500,000 through $750,000 per student, 4% above $750,000 through $2 million, and 8% above $2 million. Enacted law, Section 70415

University of New Brunswick is a Canadian institution. The U.S. private-college schedule does not classify its Canadian endowment as a U.S. private-college portfolio. Its Canadian fiscal-year balance and the survey's U.S.-dollar conversion also use different currency conventions. No U.S. institution-specific tier is assigned here.

The tax applies to net investment income; the statutory asset and student definitions determine applicability and the rate.

Reporting comparisons

The U.S. NCSE size-band averages are based on U.S. respondents. This Canadian institution is outside those published comparison groups. The historical dollar series above follows NACUBO's conversion convention; a Canadian investment return follows its stated portfolio currency and fiscal year-end. An April or March reporting period does not match the U.S. June 30 endpoint. Currency and date alignment are needed before comparing percentage performance. NCSE universe and return periods

Public records and reporting dates

NACUBO's respondent is University of New Brunswick. Annual financial statements and any nonprofit return can cover a different legal entity or a wider group of resources. A university, a supporting foundation and an investment pool can each report its own assets. Total organizational assets also include resources outside the endowment, and the tax-return accounting period can differ from the survey's reporting year. Those distinctions govern how public records are compared. Respondent identity

Endowments are some of the most studied investors in the world, and the numbers are scattered across financial reports, press releases and student newspapers. This site puts each endowment's figures in one place, from its own reports first, names every source, and says plainly when a number has not been published.

How we check facts

Each fact names its source and its date. We start with the institution's own financial report, investment office report and press release, then official filings, then third-party reporting. Figures are tied to a fiscal year, because most endowments report once a year. When two sources disagree, we show both. When an endowment has not published a number, we say so rather than estimate it silently.

Status labels

Multiple sourcesTwo or more independent sources agree.
Single sourceOne source, usually the institution itself.
EstimateA third-party estimate or a conversion. Not stated by the institution.
PendingShown for structure; the figure or its source is still being confirmed.

About Endowments.com

Richard C. Wilson

What this site is

Endowments.com is a research resource on university, college and foundation endowments. It profiles 775 endowments, including university, college, foundation and hospital endowments, built from each institution's own reports and public filings, and runs the Endowments by Size Band benchmark study. Every figure carries its source and date.

Richard C. Wilson, founder of the Family Office Club

I started Family Office Club 19 years ago at 26, as my 12th startup and the first one that worked. All three of my daughters are in the business with me now. My father raised $1 billion for non-profits before I ever started, so I grew up watching this.

Since then: 300+ in-person events, 1,500 investors on stage, 250+ family offices created or formalized, 46 transactions off my own balance sheet, and CIO of a $180M single family office.

I am not a broker. I am not a bank. I do not charge for anything on this site. I built it because endowment figures are spread across hundreds of reports and press releases, and few places put them side by side with sources.
