Endowment size and reporting scope

For University of North Texas Foundation, the survey reports USD 377.679 million for FY2025 and USD 323.190 million for FY2024. These totals retain the respondent's published scope. A pooled investment fund can also hold resources outside permanent endowments, while financial statements can include interests administered by outside trustees. Those accounting boundaries help explain why one organization may publish more than one long-term-asset figure. Closing market value alone does not identify how much support a beneficiary can spend. Spending policy and payout

The FY2025 NCSE $250M to $500M group reports an average effective spending rate of 5.2%. That is a survey-group statistic and is not assigned as University of North Texas Foundation's policy. An institution's own spending rule can use several prior valuation dates, a prior-year dollar draw or additional adjustments. Its approved appropriation and the cash ultimately spent by a department can differ in timing. NCSE spending-rate table

For University of North Texas Foundation, the survey value records a closing balance in FY2025. It does not identify the valuation dates used to calculate a distribution. A policy based on earlier values can produce a different dollar draw from a percentage of the current balance. The peer statistic is retained as a group comparison, with no institution-specific payout inferred. Spending measures

Governance and investment office

The FY2025 respondent is University of North Texas Foundation, located in Denton, TX. NACUBO classifies it as a institutionally-related foundation (irf). The survey's respondent table identifies the reporting unit but supplies no individual investment-office appointment. Respondent identity and type

Federal excise tax on investment income

Public Law 119-21 changed Section 4968 for tax years beginning after December 31, 2025. Applicable private institutions must have at least 3,000 tuition-paying students in the preceding tax year, with more than half located in the United States, and student-adjusted endowment of at least $500,000. The rates are 1.4% from $500,000 through $750,000 per student, 4% above $750,000 through $2 million, and 8% above $2 million. Enacted law, Section 70415

Section 4968 excludes state colleges and universities described in Section 511(a)(2)(B). Supporting foundations retain their own legal and filing identities, with related-organization rules read alongside the public-university exclusion. A foundation's public endowment value does not, by itself, assign it a private-college tax tier.

Section 4968 taxes net investment income. Its asset and student definitions govern applicability and the rate.

FY2025 size-band comparison

Its average five-year annualized net return is 10.0%, and its ten-year average is 7.6%. The size band uses the FY2025 NACUBO balance. NCSE size groups NCSE average net returns

The peer mix describes average reported exposures within one size band. It does not reveal individual securities or the availability of cash at a particular institution. Respondents can also use different policy benchmarks. NCSE returns are net of external management fees and expenses for periods ending June 30, 2025; those periods and fee labels govern any numerical return comparison on this page. Endowments are some of the most studied investors in the world, and the numbers are scattered across financial reports, press releases and student newspapers. This site puts each endowment's figures in one place, from its own reports first, names every source, and says plainly when a number has not been published.

How we check facts

Each fact names its source and its date. We start with the institution's own financial report, investment office report and press release, then official filings, then third-party reporting. Figures are tied to a fiscal year, because most endowments report once a year. When two sources disagree, we show both. When an endowment has not published a number, we say so rather than estimate it silently.

Status labels

Multiple sourcesTwo or more independent sources agree.
Single sourceOne source, usually the institution itself.
EstimateA third-party estimate or a conversion. Not stated by the institution.
PendingShown for structure; the figure or its source is still being confirmed.

What this site is

Endowments.com is a research resource on university, college and foundation endowments. It profiles 775 endowments, including university, college, foundation and hospital endowments, built from each institution's own reports and public filings, and runs the Endowments by Size Band benchmark study. Every figure carries its source and date.

Richard C. Wilson, founder of the Family Office Club

I started Family Office Club 19 years ago at 26, as my 12th startup and the first one that worked. All three of my daughters are in the business with me now. My father raised $1 billion for non-profits before I ever started, so I grew up watching this.

Since then: 300+ in-person events, 1,500 investors on stage, 250+ family offices created or formalized, 46 transactions off my own balance sheet, and CIO of a $180M single family office.

I am not a broker. I am not a bank. I do not charge for anything on this site. I built it because endowment figures are spread across hundreds of reports and press releases, and few places put them side by side with sources.
