1) The Muhlenberg Investment Society is a student-led group that manages real funds on behalf of Muhlenberg College. Thanks to a gift from an alumnus and non-endowment funds allocated by the Muhlenberg College Board of Trustees, the organization enables students to use market research and analysis to administer a portfolio valued at approximately $250,000. The group’s long-term goal is to outperform the gains realized by Muhlenberg’s endowment funds.

“The last presentation to the Board showed an 11% annualized gain since 2008,” says Jason Monroe ’14, a finance and economics double major and a captain of Muhlenberg’s lacrosse team. “We’re proud of that, especially considering the downward trends precipitated by the global financial crisis.” (Source)

3) Serving since 2003 as Muhlenberg’s eleventh President, Peyton Randolph “Randy” Helm earned his BA in Archaeology from Yale University and his PhD in ancient history, specializing in ancient Greek and Near Eastern history and literature, from the University of Pennsylvania. President Helm reports to the Board of Trustees, the governing body of the College.  In conjunction with the Board, he created a Board of Observers, which aids the College in periodic assessment at the departmental level. President Helm has announced his retirement from the College, effective June 30, 2015. Holding the faculty rank of Professor of History, Dr. Helm teaches courses in Homeric Epic and Greek history as his schedule permits. (Source)

4) John Ramsay, Ph.D., earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bucknell University and received his Ph.D. in educational studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo. From 1984-89 he was the chair and director of the teacher education program at Dickinson College. He taught at Carleton College from 1989-2009, and served as an associate dean at Carleton from 2004-07.

During his tenure as associate dean, Ramsay coordinated the college’s efforts to recruit and retain a talented and diverse faculty. He worked on the renewal of major institutional grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. His own teaching and scholarship were supported by grant funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council on Education and the American Council of Learned Societies.

In his capacity as Provost, Ramsay will manage all fiscal and personnel aspects of the academic program, overseeing all academic department heads. The Provost also oversees the deans of academic life, international programs, and the Wescoe School; the registrar’s office, the Institute for Jewish-Christian Understanding, the Martin Art Gallery, the Entrepreneurship Institute, the Center for Ethics and the RJ Fellowship Program.
